"We want to voice our encouragement of your project. It is important and timely; as a society we are beginning to appreciate the extraordinary ways that ordinary people use ordinary objects to communicate personal experience."
-Susan Theis, Executive Director, The Orange Show, A Folk Art Foundation, Houston, TX

How Unusual is Your Mailbox?

Mailbox, U.S.A. author, Rachel Epstein is once again looking for the most unusual roadside mailboxes in America. Yes, she's working on another mailbox book! If you have a mailbox - or know of one - that looks like an animal, vehicle, building, food product, or symbol of your hobby or trade, Rachel would like to consider it for her book. She's especially interested in finding mailboxes from the following states: Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, and West Virginia.

To qualify, mailboxes need to be handmade, one-of-a-kind, and in use on the side of the road. Send or email mailbox pictures along with their locations, your name, address, phone number, and e-mail address to The Mailbox Project. (Enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope if you want your snapshots returned.) If your mailbox is selected, Rachel will contact you to arrange a time to interview you and photograph your mailbox.
